In this article you will find step-by-step instructions on how to create a resume, as well as tips and examples that will help you draw attention to your person, stand out among competitors and take a competitive position, no matter what your specialty is.

Composing a resume is inherently not difficult, it is important to compile it so that you stand out quite clearly among competitors, and this is worth some effort.

For the most part, resumes look the same, of course there are some rules, but you need to make an impression, and for this, train yourself to have an individual style. After all, 90% of your competitors will speak standard phrases, from which employers are already tired, even you, most likely tell them:

  1. Responsibility
  2. Punctuality
  3. Diligence
  4. Perseverance
  5. Sociability, etc.

This is what they expect from you, if you want to stand out among competitors - you need to hook and interest the employer, then you will get an advantage and you will be deservedly rewarded. A correctly compiled resume is really worthy of attention, and if you carefully study the material on this site, draw up a correct and catchy resume, then it will be put in a separate folder and shown to the head in the first place!

Soon you will learn powerful rules that will need to be applied ...

First Rule:When compiling a resume - imagine that you need to sell the most expensive thing for you (yourself, of course). Make the employer need you, prove that you are an expert in a certain field and this area is extremely important for him. It is important to understand that your expertise matches the position you are applying for.

Believe me!  This rule has been working for many years and if everything is done correctly, perhaps this will be enough. Although ... this is only the first rule.

What is the main task of the resume?

A resume is a business card, your personal, professional self-esteem, the task of which is to profitably sell you, or rather your experience, knowledge and skills, to obtain a pre-planned result. Think about these words!

Resume should be based on several rules, stick to them and succeed in obtaining a profession, and later on in a career:

  • Brevity.  A resume should not be very large, on average, reading a resume takes about a minute of time, often even less. The optimal size is one A4 page.
  • Specificity.  Try to be as clear as possible in dates, names, addresses. You will impress the business person who responsibly approaches tasks.
  • Truthfulness.  There are times when you want to embellish reality. Do not write a lie, it will be revealed sooner or later, and you will have to be punished.
  • Selectivity.  Select information for the resume, include precisely those aspects that will be useful in the position for which you are applying.

The areas that people primarily look at are most clearly marked, i.e. this place should contain information that will attract the attention of the employer to your person. The following describes how to write a resume.

Second Rule: The more clearly you can formulate your goal, the more attention and professional interest you will attract. A person who knows exactly what position he needs and what skills he possesses is already worthy of attention. It is advisable to also indicate the level of wages.

The order of writing sections of the resume:

The appearance of the resume should be pleasing to the eye and not contain unnecessary elements on the page! It matters the presence of your photo and a clear structure:

  • Personal data  - Name, Date of birth, Place of residence, Phone, E-mail.

Ivanov Vitaly Andreevich
Date of birth: 07.24.1980
Location: Yekaterinburg, st. Bolshakova, 77-419.
Phone: 8 ХХХ ХХХ-ХХ-ХХ (mobile), ХХХ-ХХ-ХХ (home).
Email: [email protected]

  • goal  - In this paragraph write on what vacancy you are applying for. You must know exactly what you want! Moreover, this is the most important part of your resume!

Goal, or life achievements  - Focus on this part of your resume; it should be exciting and understandable so that the reader wants to meet you live. This part should be located at the top of the resume under personal data.

  • Education  - Indicate the basic education that allows you to apply for this position. Indicate the years of study, institution and qualification awarded (specialty). Also voice additional courses or trainings, but only if they are related to a vacancy.

2002 - 2007
Ural State University named after A.M. Gorky
Faculty: Historical
Specialty: Historian-Archivist
Additional education:
2003 year Ural-Siberian Institute of Business
  Integrated Marketing Program

  • experience  - List the last places of work, starting from the last (current). Indicate the period of work, company name, field of activity, position and responsibilities, as well as specific achievements in the indicators.

March 2009 - Present.
Company: "West"
  Field: Wholesale of food
  Position: Ch. accountant
  Responsibilities: Conducting accounting and tax accounting, preparation of reports for the FSS, IMNS, work in the general taxation system.
  etc

Basically, the section resembles a work book, pay attention to this item and you will get an advantage. Do not indicate non-essential experience that is not related to the vacancy! Compose it with due attention and get a return

  • Additional Information  - This paragraph is not mandatory, but is able to influence the final decision. Indicate the skills related to the purpose of the resume - knowledge of languages, computer, programs related to the profession, etc.

PC: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CorelDraw, PhotoShop.

German is fluent, English is spoken.

  In the main (most readable part) - describe the significant events that have occurred in your professional career, what level of skill you have achieved over the years and in which areas you are deservedly considered an expert. Write how you differ from other experts, maybe you have rewards, get the manager to read your resume to the end !!!

How to like a recruitment manager?

Before answering this question, let's look at how the manager’s work and the tasks that he must perform to select candidates

  1. Compose and post job advertisements.
  2. After a sufficient number of submitted CVs, candidates need to be weeded out and the best ones selected for phoning and interviewing.
  3. After the call, part of the candidates will be eliminated again, and the rest should be invited for an interview and once again choose the best.
  4. And the last interview, perhaps already a practice, will be in the department where the employee is required.

Do not be alarmed! You will be able to attract attention to yourself if you make a quality resume. First, you need to get an interview, and for this you need to adhere to these actions:

  • Take your resume seriously, devote a lot of time to writing. Make two options and send them together if you can not decide.
  • You should have a presentable mailbox, with your last name is best (do not use mail like: [email protected]  etc.)
  • Try to use clear language, do not use too abstruse, or template phrases, nobody reads them! Tell the professional story of your career - that's all you need.
  • Divide your resume into its component parts, and make the main information more visible, but at the same time, do not overdo it.
  • Do not do multi-page pages with full information about yourself, the resume should be on 1 page A4 (maximum 2)
  • Call the employer, if possible, find out if the resume has arrived and how soon the result will be known.

Third Rule:  Be confident in yourself! Everyone is worried about job interviews, even employers. You should personify a confident person and inspire calm with your appearance, and not the feeling that you feel bad. How to achieve this? There is one way! But you will learn about him in the next article.

Here are a few non-standard resumesthat will attract the attention of the employer, but you must clearly understand how this will affect the attitude towards you. In some cases, creativity is appropriate, in some not.

A person without a higher education who in a short time has gone from an ordinary sales assistant to a head of a lending department at a bank will help you create a resume correctly. Once it was a correctly written resume that helped me build a dizzying career. It's been 9 years since I have not been employed, but I often have to deal with resumes, since now I myself act as an employer (IP).

There are tons of services to help you write your resume. But not always such a resume will help you find a good, well-paid job. The trouble is that people write a carbon copy resume. On the one hand, there are certain rules for compiling a resume, but on the other, it is important to have an individual style.

The resume must be written in such a way that you are noticed among the general stream of competitors. In this article you will learn about the standard rules for creating a resume, I will also share with you my most killer pieces that will help you stand out from your competitors and show the typical mistakes that people make when creating a resume and subsequent contacts with a potential employer.

Summary  (translated from French as “summary”) - this is a document that contains brief information (previous work experience, education, abilities, contact information, etc.) about the applicant for employment. This information helps the employer to choose the right candidate among the many applicants for the vacant position.

Why do you think a resume is the main job search tool? What do you usually write about in your resume?

Beginners at my seminars usually say that a resume is an attempt to declare oneself, about their advantages. Then I ask them to list their advantages on what 90%   people are given the following characteristics:

  •   responsibility;
  •   sociability;
  •   diligence;
  •   creativity;
  •   perseverance, etc.

I am sure you also write something similar in your resume.

Almost everyone in the compilation lists the same benefits. ATTENTION! These are all standard, template phrases that you need to get rid of if you want to stand out against the background of your competitors.

But what and how to write about your advantages? Below I will show you some secret tricks, but first let me tell you a little story:

He asked me to make such an announcement so that when they saw it, people immediately wanted to buy everything.

I then listened to him with irony. And already in his office he presented for a moment that if I knew how to write such announcements, I would probably live now somewhere in the Maldives and enjoy life, having a huge amount of money in the bank.

But over the years I rethought what was said. Maybe because of my youth, I literally perceived it then. But then in life, this phrase helped me a lot and continues to help so far.

Now, when I write someone a commercial offer, or make some kind of announcement, or even when I fill out my resume, I try to make it in such a way that, looking at it, the employer immediately wants to take me to work.

Still, the hope of learning how to compose such ads does not disappear from me.

The most important thing is to try to tune yourself in the right way with the help of this phrase. I noticed that when I sit down to fill out my resume and keep this setup for myself, my head starts working differently. I get completely different phrases and sentences, the very essence of the resume changes somewhat and the output is a completely different option than without this setting.

Conclusion:  when you are writing your resume, you need to write about your advantages not in standard, cliche phrases, but give such arguments, having studied which your potential employer will immediately want to hire you.

Believe me, it works and it tells you a person who passed a strict selection among dozens of candidates for such positions as the head of the bank lending department and the head of the sales department in a wholesale company.

Now try to answer, what, in your opinion, is the main task of the resume?

Here is what the participants of one of my trainings answered this question:

Resume is a commercial offer, the purpose of which is to sell you, or rather your knowledge, skills, experience.

Inventory of own advantages

In order to create such a resume, having seen that the employer would immediately want to take you to work, it is necessary to determine its key advantages. This can be done by answering the following questions:

  •   Why am I better than others?
  •   Why exactly should I get this job?
  •   What am I doing better than others?
  •   How am I different from my colleagues?
  •   What have I done significant in my career?
  •   What are my life achievements?

If you answer these questions, then you will have something to fill out viewable resume area  which you can learn about from the short video below:

Video: Most Viewed Resume Areas

Answers to the questions above will help you to make your resume more individual, rather than ordinary and standard, like most job seekers. Always try to stand out among other candidates and emphasize the drafting of such a selling resume, the key to which will be your advantages and achievements. With this, you can very elegantly switch the attention of the recruiter from their shortcomings to advantages.

How to make the most important part of a resume

Below you will see a sample of my resume. This option worked great while I was looking for a job. I do not claim that this sample is the limit of excellence, that it is an ideal solution, but I can argue that this resume worked perfectly and is working to this day.

Even now, when I am not working for hire, but developing my own business, years later, I receive calls from employers who have kept my resume and who invite me for interviews.

Important note: in the most important part of the resume, I do not write about what I have achieved in previous places of work. Here I write about what happened in my life outside my work, but it also concerns my professional skills:

Standard CV Rules

So, how to make a resume according to standard rules, but using “selling” elements.

Step # 1: specify a name

Step # 2: Position

We are writing for what position we are applying for.

Step # 3: Contact Details

We enter the contact information. Indicate the phone, and preferably two numbers, in case the first is unavailable. As a second phone, you can specify the number of your wife, husband, or any other next of kin, friend. Indicate email, these contact details are enough.

Step # 4: The most delicious part of the resume

The most delicious part of the resume that the eyes of employers most often fall into is the site that comes immediately after your contact details. This is usually the first half of the first page. And my basic life achievements are located there.

What only people do not insert there. Most often there they write about the education received, which for me personally plays the last role, moreover, both for the applicant, who never had a higher education, but who managed to become the head of the bank, and for the employer, who always It does not look at the presence of certain crusts, but at real cases and facts.

So, if you look at my example, then right after the contacts I have my main life achievements. This is the most delicious part of the resume.

If you can interest the employer in this particular part, then the chances that he will review your resume to the end will be much higher. And our goal is to encourage him to look through your resume to the end by all available methods, to interest him so that he invites you to an interview.

Step # 5: Previous Jobs

We indicate the previous places of work, and it is necessary in the reverse chronological order. That is, first of all, indicate your last place of work, then the penultimate and so on.

In this section you must specify:

  • place of work;
  • from what date and by what date you worked there (you can specify the month and year);
  • name of your post;
  • what was your responsibility;
  • what have you achieved and what were noted at this place of work.

Step # 6: Education

After you have indicated work experience, start adding data about your education. On work sites, a point about your education is sometimes earlier than your previous work experience. When you create a resume in Word and plan to send it yourself, then education should be put higher if you graduated from some prestigious educational institution, or if your position is not considered without appropriate education.

Since I did not have a higher education at the time of employment, which was a disadvantage, I had to lower it below in order to concentrate the attention of employers on more important points. However, if I were to write a resume now, I would still lower my education below. In my opinion, work experience is much more important than the received “crust” about education.

Step # 7: Continuing Education

Immediately after this, indicate the courses you studied and the training you completed. Indicate everything that can be called additional education.

Step # 8: Advanced Skills

Indicate what languages \u200b\u200byou speak. If only one, then you do not need to write about it. Or, if you speak Russian and Tatar, then there is also no need to indicate this only if you are not employed in a company where everyone speaks Tatar.

Write how experienced you are at a computer. And also write down what professional programs you own from those that may be useful to you when doing work.

If you have letters of recommendation from former managers or have an agreement that you can provide their contact details to provide your characteristics to an interested employer, be sure to indicate this. And for the future, always try to have a good relationship with your superiors so that they later "put up a word for you."

Step # 10: Personal Qualities

Fill out the section with personal qualities and additional information. Here I am writing about the fact that I have my own car, category B rights and I am ready to use it in my work. This is especially true if your work is related to movement.

I indicate additional information about myself, about what I do in my free time and what my interests are. I don’t smoke and don’t drink, I consider it my advantages, therefore I will definitely include it in the resume. The employer will know that you will not go to breaks, which means that you will work more. He will understand that you will not come to work “from a hangover”, which means that you will always be full of strength, in a sober mind and a firm memory.

I always write that I study professional literature. And I’m writing this not for the red words, I really write out specialized literature and spend a lot of time on business books, because I don’t want to sit still, but I want to grow professionally, constantly pump my knowledge and skills.

Be sure to write about what sports I do. Pay attention to the line: “I am fond of team sports ...”. The key word here is command. By this I emphasize that I am able and love to work in a team. Thus, he killed two birds with one stone: And he told about sports, once again emphasizing that I am a healthy, energetic person, and I used the emphasis on the team, attaching importance to my person.

My resume ends with a duplication of contact details and a call to action. So we facilitate the work of the recruiter, he will not need to scroll your resume to the beginning to find the phone there. He is already in front of him and in capital letters, we ask him to call right now!

This is another small detail that none of my competitors have and which decides. She sets me apart from competitors and increases the chances of an employer calling.

How to get a recruiter to view your resume

If you think that all recruiters carefully read all the resume options that come to them, then you are very mistaken.

Let's imagine one working day in the life of a real recruiter.

When a recruiter is given the task of finding a person for a job, he has a specific list of tasks that is limited in time. It is very important. Surely, you are familiar with what the lack of time, rummages, deadlines and the like.

If the recruiter searches for candidates for too long, then he will have problems. He can simply be punished for inaction. Moreover, this applies both to employees of recruiting agencies and employees of the personnel department, which are in any large enterprise. Therefore, the recruiter’s task list looks something like this:

  1. Make a vacancy announcement, where to include information about the vacancy, information about the company, requirements for the applicant, working conditions, etc.
  2. Then you need to place an ad
  3. After that, at the coordinates indicated in the announcement, resume flows will begin to pour in.
  4. All these resumes need to be processed and weed out unnecessary candidates.
  5. Suitable candidates will need to be phoned and interviewed.
  6. After which, from among the respondents, some of the people will be filtered again, and the other part will need to be phoned again and invited for an interview.
  7. Then, with all candidates to conduct an interview, once again weed out the unnecessary.
  8. And the rest should be sent for an interview with the direct head of the department where the required employee is required.

I remember well the case when I posted three vacancies on one of the job search sites. I posted job postings around 5 p.m. And the next morning in my inbox was about 70(!)   summary. Just imagine how much work needs to be done to study all the letters sent. By the evening of the same day, the number of resumes reached 200 pieces.

Therefore, the chances of you going unnoticed are quite high. With the help of a well-written resume, your task is to increase the percentage of employer response. By the way, I recommend you to watch the video master class Summary through the eyes of a recruiter. Have you ever had this when looking for work, when there are vacancies, but there are practically no responses to your resume? Have you ever tried to look at your resume through the eyes of a recruiter?

Today you will have such an opportunity. I posted several job postings on one of the job search sites. That was last night. And on the morning of the next day, about 70 incoming messages from candidates came to my mail.

I did a little analysis and identified 12 key mistakes that reduce the effectiveness of your resume and significantly reduce the chances of considering your candidacy.

Right now, you have the opportunity to study these errors and get a useful lesson that will help you avoid as many as 12 errors when sending a resume to the cherished position.

Cases and analysis of readers' resumes

I am regularly approached by readers with various questions on compiling a resume. I try to help everyone, so please contact. Below I analyze the most interesting cases:

Case # 1: What to write in a resume if you haven’t officially worked for a long time

Hello Roman, I liked your article about a selling resume, the other day I want to get training from you about “I want to find a good job”, I need your help, help me. I am composing a resume and I don’t know what to write in the resume in the “work experience” section since I haven’t officially worked for the last 7 years, that is, before that I have experience, because for these 7 years I tried to work mainly on the Internet, where I mainly lost money and was engaged in network marketing, but in the end nothing happened. Please help me write this gap in a cunning and concise way. I plan to get a job on engineering, either a manager or an automotive engineer, I will look at the options. Regards, Rustem. Thank you in advance.

Dear, Rustem! I would not regard this 7-year period of your life as a “gap”. I am sure that over the past 7 years you have gained invaluable experience that can and should be turned into your advantage.

Indicate that you have been doing business online for the past seven years. Next, highlight the key competencies that you developed during this period. If you were engaged in network marketing, then this contributed to the development of sales skills, communication. I myself was once engaged in network marketing, I know firsthand that you have to leave your comfort zone, call different people, convince them, highlight and give some strong arguments in favor of this lesson, work with objections, try to fulfill the sales plan, In general, think of your occupation as a real business and take steps to develop it.

Do not be afraid to talk directly with your employer about this. What is the majority of workers doing now? They want to do nothing and get paid for it, to get away from work. You can write in a resume that the experience of entrepreneurship helped you take a different look at the relationship between the employer and the employee, made you more responsible.

Alternatively, you can indicate in the resume or in the cover letter some suggestions taken from your last activity, with the help of which you can improve the profitability or efficiency of the company you are applying for.

Suppose I myself have learned so many things over the past 9 years on the Internet:

All this knowledge can be successfully applied in any business, since now without the Internet there is nowhere.

You have specified the specific positions for which you will apply. Here you need to proceed from the knowledge that you have gained over this seven-year period and how it can be applied in your industries. Maybe you, as a motor engineer, will be able to offer some kind of online system for accounting for traffic or for accounting for spare parts.

Perhaps your experience in network marketing will help to improve the dispatch of the fleet in which you plan to work. Or you can build a new scheme of sales of motor transport services. This, of course, does not apply to the position of engineer. But maybe it’s time for you to reconsider your career direction? Maybe it's time to change the scope of activity?

Try to answer these questions and write out your proposals, and then put all this together in your resume (commercial proposal).

Roman, and what can be answered by the employer when he asks: “Why do you want to work for the company if you are engaged in entrepreneurship? After all, there is more money and opportunities. All the same, 7 years of great experience. ” What exactly is necessary to answer such a tricky question?

Speak as is. In your case, the truth is the best weapon. Tell me, you overestimated your strength, “bought” the promise of easy money, millions, but this is not there. More precisely, it may be, but I did not succeed. It took years to figure this out.

Entrepreneurship is a slippery slope that looks like a roller coaster. Today you can earn a lot, and tomorrow go into a hard minus. Not everyone can succeed in entrepreneurship. When I started, I thought it would be different. I do not regret my attempt, but now I realized that I want stability.

Conclusion

So, let's summarize and consolidate the knowledge gained:

  • Play according to the rules of recruiters;
  • Take a lot of time writing your resume and approach the process of writing responsibly and seriously;
  • Get yourself a decent email account (no need to use an email of the form [email protected]  etc.);
  • Compose cover letters;
  • Do not use template phrases; try to tell about yourself and your advantages with simple and accessible words;
  • Highlight the key blocks of the resume so that the employer must pay attention to them;
  • Write a 1-2 page resume. Do not make letters too long;
  • After sending your resume, be sure to call your employer and find out if your letter has arrived;
  • Be sure to call the employer and find out the result of the consideration of your candidacy.

I am sure these simple tips will help you create a competent and interesting resume that will help you stand out among your competitors and increase your chances of a successful job placement.

P.S.  By the way, if you want to receive feedback on your resume, compose it according to my instructions and send to Email:. I will point out your mistakes and give advice on what can be improved.

Video for dessert: The possibilities of people are endless

A successful search for a first or new job depends largely on your ability to present yourself. But, as a rule, before a meeting with a potential employer, an interview is conducted to study and select applications. Your chances will be higher, the more informative and literate your resume will be. When applying for a job, this is half the success.

Principles for writing a resume

In short, the resume is your business card, through which the employer gets to know you in absentia. Sometimes an illiterate presentation of your skills can be a reason for refusal even to an experienced and qualified specialist. Therefore, it is important to remember the four principles on which a successful sample resume is based when applying for a job:

  • Brevity. Remember that your resume should fit on one A4 page. Therefore, learn to present information about yourself thesis, focusing on the most important thing. Do not retell your autobiography. Focus on the key points of education, work experience and special skills. And do not try to trick, reducing the font size and reducing the distance between the lines. Information must be readable. Therefore, do not reduce the font size below the 12th size.
  • Specificity. The names of educational institutions, as well as organizations in which you worked, should be specified specifically (and not just a university, factory, office, and so on). Also pay attention to the time frame. It is advisable to accurately indicate the dates.
  • Credibility. Indicate only true information about yourself. Do not ascribe to yourself any nonexistent regalia and skills. Do not indicate knowledge of a foreign language if, in fact, you have learned only a dozen words. The same applies to PC knowledge and other specific issues. Lies will be revealed either at the interview, or in the first weeks of work. If you submit documents to a recruitment agency, you will be exposed even earlier, because employees carefully check the accuracy of the resume.
  • Selectivity. Indicate in the resume only the information that directly relates to the position for which you are applying. If you, for example, plan to work as an accountant, keep silent about the fact that you have completed courses of hairdressers. Do not overwrite the information contained in the sample resumes for applying for a job. The pattern is just a clue.

Technical points

The ideal resume sample when applying for a job should be impeccable in every way. It is important to take care of the design, because a carelessly drawn up document can scare off a potential employer. Here are some technical points worth paying attention to:

  • Most HR managers agree that it is undesirable to write the word "Resume" in the header of the page. And so it is clear what constitutes a document. In addition, you spend an invaluable line in which you can indicate significant information about yourself. Although, if the summary is short, it is permissible to indicate the type of document, thereby making it visually larger.
  • In a text editor, select the font Times New Roman. It is optimal for visual perception.
  • The text color is only black. This solution allows the reader to concentrate on the content of the document without being distracted by the details. The only part of the resume that has the right to be colored is a photograph.
  • The main text should be written in size 12-14, depending on how much information you are going to put on the page. FULL NAME. it is advisable to select a font larger by 2 pins. Name the subitems in bold or underlined.
  • All fields, except the left, should be 2 cm. The last is 1 cm. These are standard parameters for business documents. In addition, all other papers of your personal file (if you are hired) will be issued in this way.
  • One and a half line spacing is optimal for reading. But if your sample resume when applying for a job will contain a lot of information, then a single interval is permissible.
  • Do not write information in solid text. Divide it into semantic paragraphs (it is advisable to skip an empty line between them). Table layout is also acceptable.
  • Do not use decorative frames and patterns. A resume is primarily a business document.

Resume structure

A resume is a purely individual thing, nevertheless there is a certain generally accepted structure that can be supplemented or trimmed at your discretion. So, the standard sample resume for a job (in 2017) includes five points:

  • Personal information.
  • The purpose of submitting a resume.
  • Education.
  • Experience.
  • Additional Information.

Personal data

Any sample resume for applying for a job (for 2017) begins with the "Personal Information" section. Here is what information you need to indicate in it:

  • FULL NAME.  It is indicated in full, without abbreviations.
  • Address. If the place of registration does not coincide with the place of residence, this must be indicated. If you are temporarily renting a home, indicate the time frame within which you can be found at this place. The fact is that some organizations prefer to notify applicants for the position of their decision by means of ordinary letters.
  • Telephone. Indicate both landline and mobile numbers with the corresponding mark in brackets. It will also be useful to indicate a mobile operator. If there is any time frame in which you can receive calls, also indicate this in the summary. For example, if you are not at home in the daytime, let the manager not try to call your city number in vain. If you have a habit of disconnecting your mobile in the evenings, specifying a time frame will save the manager from having to dial your number to no avail.
  • Email.  In addition to the “soap”, you can, but not necessarily, indicate your contacts in instant messengers and social networks.
  • Date of Birth.
  • Additional Information.  It may indicate your marital status, the presence of children, citizenship, the presence of specific diseases. Fill in this column at your discretion, if required by the position for which you are applying.

The purpose of submitting a resume

If you decide to create a resume for a job, the sample must necessarily contain a section about your goals. The first is the position you are applying for. Moreover, if you are applying for several vacancies at once, it is advisable to create a separate resume for each. It is possible that each of them will be considered by the heads of different departments.

The second paragraph of the “Purpose” section is salary. If you and the employer do not agree on this issue, he is entitled to reject your candidacy at the stage of consideration of the resume. As a result, you do not have to bargain about the level of remuneration during the interview. As a rule, it is customary to indicate the average amount that has established itself in the labor market in this specialty. But if you objectively consider yourself a good specialist with extensive experience, you can increase this figure by 30%. But do not specify a specific number. Write: "From ... rubles per month."

Education

To create a resume for a job, the sample must necessarily contain information about education. Here, experts disagree. So, some consider it appropriate to mention school education, while others consider it superfluous. The main part is secondary and higher education, indicating the period of study, educational institution, faculty, specialty and qualifications obtained. Do not abbreviate. An employer may well not know the abbreviated name of universities and majors, he will not waste time searching for transcripts on the Internet. Write all the names in full.

After basic education, indicate additional. It can be some kind of courses, trainings or electives. Write only about what there is confirmation in the form of diplomas and certificates. Indicate only those courses that directly or indirectly relate to the planned type of activity.

experience

A sample of the correct resume for applying for a job should contain information about professional experience. If you don’t have one, you can talk about practical training at an educational institution. As for previous jobs, you need to provide the following information about them:

  • The time period from the moment of taking up the post until the dismissal.
  • Name of the organization. No abbreviations - just the whole!
  • The scope of the organization. If the name does not mean specialization, be sure to give a brief description.
  • Position. Mark which post you held at your previous job. Ideally, your statement should be supported by a record in the work book.
  • List the powers and responsibilities, as well as the production functions that you performed at your previous job. This will be a kind of additional confirmation of your professional skills.
  • Achievements. If you have any thanks or recommendations from the previous employer, indicate this. Perhaps you contributed to increased productivity or profit? Be sure to include a numeric value.

additional information

A sample of the correct resume for applying for a job should contain not only dry facts, but also some additional information. In this section you can praise yourself. But, again, do not go far from the specifics of the planned work. Here is what you can talk about in this section:

  • The degree of ownership of a personal computer. If the work is not directly related to working on a PC, you can limit yourself to a generalized "confident user" and the like. If the computer will be your working tool, specify more specifically which programs you own.
  • Foreign language skills. List the languages \u200b\u200bthat you speak, indicating the level of knowledge. Such a skill is useful in any organization, regardless of the position held. Perhaps in the future this will serve as a good help for your promotion.
  • Extra skills. This may be the presence of a driver’s license, creative and any other abilities that can become a competitive advantage when choosing from several applicants.
  • Personal qualities. Indicate everything that should help you win the favor of your employer. For example, stress resistance, sociability and more. Also a valuable quality may be the willingness to work beyond the norm or go on long trips.
  • Recommendations If previous employers or teachers are willing to personally put in a word for you, indicate their contacts in your resume.

A standard resume resume for a job is the first step in creating a competent and effective self-presentation. Some professional advice will help you get even closer to your dream job.

  • Make a basic sample of writing a resume for a job and adjust it whenever you look for a new place to work. Learn more about the organization itself and its leader. Based on this, add new items or delete existing ones.
  • It is not always necessary to flaunt your virtues. The head of the organization or your immediate superiors may not like it if your level of qualification, experience and competence is higher than his. Perhaps some regalia should be silent. You will have time to show abilities in the course of work.
  • Do not leave empty blocks. If you do not have experience, simply omit this item. If you do not know foreign languages, do the same. Adjust resume templates for a job. The sample is for guidance only.
  • Always attach a photograph to your resume. According to statistics, such applications are much more likely to be approved than “faceless” resume forms for applying for a job. A sample from the photo disposes to the applicant.
  • Be sure to print the document on your computer. A handwritten summary is poorly read and not taken seriously.

MirSovetov already told earlier. Now it’s worthwhile to devote a separate publication to how this document does not need to be compiled, or rather, to tell about possible errors using examples.
  For every vacancy, hundreds of responses come. And to get acquainted with one resume, the employer or personnel specialist takes a maximum of three minutes. According to recruitment experts, applicants too often make mistakes, the price of which is time wasted, the summary is in the basket.

Example resume No. 1

  Suppose a certain Natalya Petrova (all coincidences of names and real people and enterprises are random) at the end of the university in the Volga region moved to Moscow. First, she headed the household chemicals section in a store in the near Moscow region, then moved to a wholesale and retail company that sells household chemicals throughout the country, where she oversaw sales not only in Moscow but also in the regions.
  She becomes cramped in the framework of her current position, but the company cannot offer options for promotion. Natalia begins to look for a new job and responds to the vacancy of the deputy head of the sales department at another company that also sells household chemicals. Requirements for the candidate: work experience in the field of wholesale trade in household chemicals, leadership of people, interaction with regional offices.
  Despite Natalya’s compliance with all requirements, the employer, having received her resume, did not contact.

  File Name: My Resume
  Summary of Petrova Natalia
  Age: xx years
  Phone: 8-9xx-xxx-xx-xx
  Russian nationality
  Marital status: divorced
  Goal: getting a better job
  Education:
  Middle Volga University of Economics, 2000
  2001 - English courses
  2002 - sales training
  Experience:
  2005 - 2009 - LLC “Current place of work”, sales manager
  2000 - 2005 - LLC “Previous place of work”, Head of Section
  Languages: English - Intermediate
  PC Proficiency: Advanced User
  Hobbies: embroidery with the Bulgarian cross

Error handling

  The first and very, according to recruiters, a common mistake - file name. The response count for each vacancy goes to hundreds, and resumes of candidates who are of interest to the employer are usually stored in one folder. In addition, each file is called a "Summary". Even if they are different versions of the name (for example, “rezume”, “resume”, “resume”, “My resume”, etc.), it is easier to distinguish between them by the names of applicants. Therefore, the risk is very high that the recruiter’s acquaintance with the candidate will end up reading the name of the attached file.
  From one of the latest vacancy announcements on the job search site: “Files named“ Resume ”or“ My Resume ”will not open. Please use your surname for this. ”
  The word "resume" in a document with that name is not accepted. And it’s so clear that this is it.
Personal data. The surname of the candidate must be indicated in full and in order: first name, middle name, last name. An exception can only be if you contact the company directly, about which you know for sure that the letters on the patronymic are not accepted there. This is inherent mainly in foreign companies.
  Contacts should go immediately after the name. MirSovetov recommends highlighting both the name and contact information in a larger font. So it will be more convenient for the employer to read your resume. However, you cannot use a font larger than 14. At the same time, too small text is inconvenient for reading, so the best option: name and contacts - 14 font, the rest of the text - 12th.
  There is no need to indicate nationality in the resume - if this moment matters to the employer (and should not be required by law), the last name will tell him everything.
  Whether or not to write about marital status, there is no consensus, so it is probably up to everyone to decide. But to inform about the divorce is certainly not worth it. If asked, you will have to answer, but on your own initiative - to nothing.
goal. The wording “getting a decent job” can only tell the employer that the applicant is dissatisfied with the current one. At the stage of reading the resume, this information exposes the candidate not in the best way.
  It is also unclear what position and in which sphere a person claims. In the case of Natalia, the optimal wording would be: "Obtaining the position of deputy head of sales in the field of trade."
In real resumes, sometimes there are wordings in the spirit of “I am looking for the work of some director or deputy, watchman, cleaner and any other that does not require higher education.”
Education. The section does not take its place. It makes sense to start with him when the candidate has no work experience. Natalia’s experience is quite solid, and it is he who is interested in the employer in the first place.
In her case, the situation is aggravated by the fact that she graduated, most likely, a little-known university employer. If he, while reaching the place of study, has become interested in work experience, he may not attach any importance to this. But the university, which is doubtful from the point of view of the employer, can lead to the fact that things will not come to work experience.
  The chauvinism of the lion's share of Moscow employers in relation to regional universities is no secret. And in the regions, graduates of local universities with a good reputation are often preferred over candidates who have received education in other regions. The exception is the giants of the rank of Moscow State University, Baumanka or Plekhanovka.
In the Altai Republic, postscripts to vacancy announcements are not uncommon: "graduates of the GASU (Gorno-Altai State University, the" main university "of the republic - Ed.), Please do not worry."
  And a graduate of a Ukrainian university who has worked in Moscow for more than 10 years and has long had Russian citizenship, after reading the resume, the recruiter first of all specified whether he had a Russian passport, since the position was offered only to Russian citizens. The recruiter had doubts after the “Education” section in the resume. Since then, this candidate has indicated citizenship in his personal data.
  In the situation of Natalia, this section is better divided into two parts: basic education (higher) and additional. First university, then all courses and trainings.
  When describing a university, it is necessary to indicate the years of study, and not just graduation, faculty, academic specialty or assigned qualification.
  Courses and trainings follow. They are listed, like places of work, in reverse chronological order (with Natalya, in direct order). Be sure to indicate the full name of the institution and course or training. In our example, this is especially important in the case of "sales training": there are many of them, and it is difficult to understand which one is meant.
  Well, the place of this section in the resume of an experienced candidate, I repeat, after work experience or professional skills.
experience. Natalia has the experience necessary for an actual position, but all of this from her resume, unfortunately, is not visible. It’s easy to save the situation - to reveal the responsibilities in each of the positions held and the profile of each company. Indeed, in itself, it can not talk about anything.
For example, at least two companies in Moscow are called Gemini LLC. One of them specializes in logistics, the other - in the retail trade of consumer goods.
Additional Information. The name of the level of English, adopted in language schools, the employer can not talk about anything. This applies even to some recruiters of Russian representative offices of foreign companies. So it’s better to report on your real skills: can you read without a dictionary or with a dictionary, say how well you understand spoken language, on which topics you can explain. If you have an international certificate confirming your knowledge of the language, it may be worth mentioning this, but it’s better not to limit yourself to just that. “Fluent” will always make a better impression than fluent or a top score for TOEFL. But provided that you own really freely.
  The phrase “advanced PC user” may also be in doubt. Everyone has the right to put their own meaning into this concept. Optimal: list the general and special programs with which you are “friendly”.
  But the presence of a driver’s license, category, real driving experience is worth mentioning, especially if the proposed position involves mobility.
  And finally, a hobby. Their mention is sometimes welcomed in the West, but in Russia it can be annoying if the hobby is not related to the future profession or corporate culture of the future employer.
There is a known case when the applicant, knowing that the company cultivates a love of tennis, mentioned that the avid tennis player himself knows about this fact. He was credited with plus such a manifestation of interest in the future employer. True, he mentioned his hobby not in the resume, but in.
  A job seeker applying for a job in a network of mobile phone salons indicated in the resume that he was a pusher. The HR manager had a similar hobby, and this decided the case in favor of the candidate. But he then refused the proposed position himself: the salary did not work.
Decor. Of great importance is the use of graphic effects. In this example, they are ignored - and in vain. It’s best to highlight the section names in bold. And the subsections "Responsibilities" and "Achievements" in the description of each place of work - in italics.
  The main requirement for a resume is that it should not only accurately inform about the most important skills and qualities of the candidate for the employer, but also bring this information in a convenient form.
A few simple tricks. If the subsection and the information in it go in one line (for example, “Date of birth: dd.mm.yyyy.”) It is better to separate them from each other by a tabulator. Moreover, the information in the following sections should begin at the same level. The helpers are a tab and a space.

For instance:

  It looks better and more comfortable than:
  Date of birth: dd.mm.yyyy.
  Location: Moscow
  Marital status: Married

Before sending a resume, you should view it from the monitor and print it if possible. This will allow you to evaluate how convenient it will be to read it, whether the most significant information is striking. If something is wrong, you have to redo it.
  Instead of age, it is better to indicate the date of birth: you never know how life turns. Maybe you will work for another year or two in the same company in the same position and with the same terms of reference, and then send a resume with an outdated figure.
  Employers usually perceive any inaccuracy in such a document as a manifestation of neglect and laziness. Which does not add to their desire to communicate with the candidate noted in this.
  The same applies to grammar and punctuation errors. Their presence in the resume often becomes a good reason to put an end to the candidate. This happens even if he does not pretend to be an editor, proofreader, translator, typesetter or secretary, where one hundred percent literacy is required. At a minimum, when writing a resume, use the spell check option in a text editor. If you fill out an online form, it will be safer to first type the text in the editor and then copy. An important point: in all sections where the transfer is being made (responsibilities, achievements, additional information, personal qualities), a semicolon must be put after each item. After the last point. The speller usually does not recognize this error, but it matters. If achievements or responsibilities are limited to one point, a dot is placed after it.

The options from the series “I’m looking for the job of a secretary-rifirend” or “I will be an ideal workman” are a 100% guarantee that the resume will go to the basket.

Error handling

  The structure of the resume is generally maintained correctly, but it is better to indicate contact information immediately after the name. Experts also advise highlighting the name and contacts in a larger font - for the convenience of the employer.
goal. It is necessary to indicate a specific position - as in the job description. In the case of Ivan Ivanov, this is especially important, since he works in a leadership position and claims to be a manager. In this case, the willingness of the applicant to consider positions of a lower rank will cause unnecessary doubts for the employer.
  Salary requirements should not be indicated in this section.
Personnel officers do not have a unanimous opinion on whether to specify salary requirements in the resume, but many people think that it is better to save the topic of earnings before the interview, and in no case be the first to touch upon it.
  MirSovetov does not recommend to indicate in the resume the common names of the position as “system administrator”. Better official, in this case - "system administrator".
experience. Big problems are created by a post at the last place of work and a circle of duties. One gets the impression that the applicant either held two positions at the same time (which is unlikely), or rather composed something about his leadership experience.
  If there is a career growth within the company, MirSovetov recommends delimiting the positions held by time and terms of duties:
  The impression of the one who will read the resume is completely different. It can be seen that the candidate quickly received a promotion in the company, which is an absolute plus.
When describing a managerial position, it is of great importance how many people were subordinate to the applicant. This information must be reflected.
  If during the work the applicant has developed any programs important for the organization, it is worth devoting a separate sub-chapter to “Achievements”.
It is not entirely true that the candidate has a description of responsibilities in the first place of work. It is better to devote a separate subheading of “Achievements” to the fact that the internal corporate network was created from scratch:

Responsibilities:
  - creation and support of an internal corporate network
  - monitoring the status of computers in the office and their software, prevention if necessary
  - Diagnostics and technology and software.

Achievements:
  - Creation of an internal corporate network from scratch and ensuring its uninterrupted operation.

MirSovetov recommends telling about achievements within each of the occupied positions and not being modest. But here the specifics are important. The employer would be better impressed by the words "increased sales by 10%" than "significantly increased sales."
  After each place of work, it is advisable to indicate the city in brackets.
  An important point - work experience does not always need to be fully described. The resume should occupy no more than an A4 page. This is the limit, the shorter the better. Excess is fraught with sending a resume to the basket.
  Experience can drag on a much larger volume. MirSovetov recommends candidates with extensive experience to confine themselves to a description of jobs over the past five to seven, a maximum of ten years.
  If this experience does not adequately reflect some of the applicant’s skills demanded by the proposed position, they can be listed in the section on professional skills. A careful reading of the job description, especially the range of duties in the proposed position, will help in this.
Skills. There is no need to list everything, but focus on the relevant for the proposed position. Since the responsibilities of the leader include, first of all, the setting of tasks for the performers and quality control of their work, in this example we need to focus on this.
  Skills need to be listed in order from the most significant to the least. In this case, you need to start, of course, with the skills of the leader. If the candidate really wants to emphasize that he has not forgotten how to do the work of his subordinates himself and if necessary is ready to do it himself, it is better to bring these skills in the end.
Personal qualities. Recruitment specialists have no consensus on this section. However, many consider it pointless, since this is just a candidate, whose loyalty is often subject to verification only in the process.
Language skills are not personal qualities, but an additional and important skill that deserves a separate section or subsection in the “Additional Information” section, which is not present in this example. Be sure to also indicate the level of language proficiency.
  In any case, if you mention personal qualities, then list them not in one sentence, but one in a column, in a list format using bullet points (a bullet in front of each list item) - this is more convenient for perception.
  The absence and readiness for business trips, most likely, will be perceived as pluses, but place these qualities in the section on personal qualities or additional information.
  Names and contacts of recommenders are not required to be indicated in the CV. For the first acquaintance, the phrase in “Recommendations are provided upon request” is enough. But when it comes to recommendations, the employer should have an idea of \u200b\u200bwhere and in what position each recommender works. If he changed his job or takes another position, it must be emphasized at what time you worked under his leadership.

  What do we have in the dry residue. There is no only acceptable form of resume in nature, and the given samples cannot claim this role. There is no consensus among recruiting specialists about certain particularities: what should be present in the resume, and what should not be the place. And it is impossible to guess what views on this subject are held by a person who is to read exactly your resume.
  But in what are all employers and personnel officers united - the resume should contain a clear answer whether the applicant is the specialist who is looking for a specific vacancy. And do not take too much time to search for this answer.
  In other words, the resume should at first glance inform you about what you know how, where and how you have honed your professional experience, what you have achieved. And be sure to be comfortable to read.
  If it meets these requirements, they will not attach importance to any unprincipled things. For example, the fact that you first reported about your education (but if the university you graduated from is credible), and then about your work experience or your personal qualities that a particular recruiter considers unnecessary. But, let’s say, grammatical errors or negligence in design (which, however, in itself reduces readability) is already a matter of principle.

All elements of the strategic planning of companies in various fields of activity are developed with the aim of increasing productivity, profitability and enhancing employee loyalty. The right choice of potential employees directly affects these factors, therefore, the selection of personnel in the company attach particular importance. The search and selection procedure is based on the needs of the enterprise and begins with a description of the vacancy.

One of the most common and effective selection tools is the selection of candidates for resumes. After it can be carried out:

  • telephone screening to clarify details not specified in the resume and to screen out candidates not suitable for job descriptions;
  • face-to-face interview (as a rule, there are several of them);

Resume is a concise professional self-assessment of the applicant, where information is indicated:

  • about qualifications, skills, knowledge;
  • about experience;
  • about the virtues;
  • about personal qualities;

The decision of the employer depends on how correctly and correctly it will be drawn up: the candidate is “promising” or “not promising”.

What information should be indicated and in what sequence

Resumes are of the following main types:

  • functional - to demonstrate skills and at least experience;
  • targeted - compiled for a specific position;
  • chronological - describes in detail the experience in reverse chronological sequence;
  • mixed - combined strong aspects of the functional and chronological;

The most popular view is a chronological summary, which should be recorded in the sequence of points:

  1. Name, surname (full name is possible).
  2. Personal information (date of birth, marital status, child, citizenship when looking for work in another state).
  3. Experience (reverse chronological order in the format “mm.yyyy”, indicating professional achievements and reasons for dismissal).
  4. Education (basic, for example, a university with an indication of the period of study and additional - courses, seminars).
  5. Professional skills (computer literacy: level, programs; possession of sales methods; basics of conducting analytics, inventory accounting, etc.).
  6. Personal qualities (indicate those that are more suitable in the context of a certain vacancy)
  7. Additional information (availability of a car: driving experience, category of rights; knowledge of languages: native - in the first place, foreign ones are indicated with the level of knowledge).
  8. Interests and hobbies (briefly, but definitely).
  9. Recommendations (indicated when there are real recommenders who should first be asked whether it is possible to give their contacts to the employer). 8-9 points are optional.

In the end, it is desirable to indicate the real level of wages, from which I would like to start in this position.

Features of the compilation

The main principle of writing a resume: highlight the positive aspects of the biography and make inconspicuous as far as possible what cannot be attributed to strong qualities. The document must meet the following requirements:

  • Conciseness.  The information is summarized in no more than two pages. The focus should be on key points.
  • Realism. All that is indicated in the document is true, and during the interview will be justified.
  • Structuredness.  Information is described in a certain sequence and corresponds to a specific form.
  • Selectivity.  The goal is indicated, that is, it is necessary to determine which vacancy is interesting, is there a chance to get this job, taking into account knowledge and own professional experience.
  • Specificity.For example, you should not write: I was engaged in training. Clearer wording: trained two employees.
  • Effectiveness.Use verbs of action, avoid passive turns. No need to write: I was responsible for the control of activities ... better: I controlled the work ...
  • Focus on achievements.  Do not be afraid to seem immodest, a good employee knows how to present himself.
  • Positivity.  For example, reduced the percentage of sales losses or increased sales, as it is better to write - the difference is obvious.

CV Rules

Dozens of resumes can go through a human resources officer during a working day. A document drawn up according to the following rules will highlight the candidacy among the mass of applicants:

  • If the information does not interfere on two pages, you can reduce the font, but it should be easy to read. At the end of the first page they write that they should continue, indicate the sheet number and last name.
  • In situations where there is not enough information to completely fill out the sheet, the information is placed in such a way that there are no empty spaces on the page.
  • The official design style, without Adobe Photoshop filters, using only one font and one format (for example, 12 – Times New Roman or Arial).
  • The resume items are separate from each other.
  • Full name, headings are highlighted in bold.
  • For a positive visualization of the personality, a well-chosen photograph will serve, where the applicant is dressed in business-style clothes.
  • Spell check (F7 button in Word). It should be given to someone to compose a compiled resume before submitting. In case of errors, the document becomes non-competitive.
  • Page parameters: left margin - 2.5 cm, all other margins - 2 cm each. Provides for the use of the 10th font format and reduction of margins by 1 cm. If the resume will need to be sent by fax, then the fields cannot be narrowed, the text will be unreadable.
  • When printing, only high-quality white paper is used.

Compilation errors

Errors in the preparation of documents not only annoy, but also indicate inattention, a low educational level, and the phlegm of a candidate who had no time to read a resume. The lack of structuring and formatting in the text potentially causes rejection by the employer or the person representing him.

The list of traditional errors and inaccuracies:

  1. Uncertainty of purpose. It is better not to indicate it if it is obviously primitively expressed.
  2. Inappropriate photo or lack thereof.
  3. The lack of chronology causes unnecessary time spent on searching for the necessary information and indicates the unsuccessful experience of the applicant.
  4. Lack of information. Long items of functional duties resemble job descriptions, suggest that the candidate is more likely to be unable to clearly and concisely express his thoughts, and is poorly skilled in vocabulary.
  5. Availability of contacts. All are indicated on which it is convenient to contact and schedule an interview with the applicant.

You should also avoid using the pronoun “I” and unnecessary details, in particular, about studying at school or serving in the army.

The significance of each of the words indicated in the document for a career cannot be underestimated. The use of strong and weak words is an additional aspect for creating an effective resume.

Strong in this case are verbs of perfect form. They must be used with caution, following the principle: the quality of use is more important than quantity. They especially emphasize achievements or results: achieved, developed, implemented, initiated, managed, improved, increased, etc.

The other side of the coin is words that are sore or either unnecessary or unspecified. They should be avoided, replaced by synonyms, or concretized meaning by facts, examples. For example: communicative (there is a 90% resume), creative, organized, successful, effective, motivated. Words of action: carried out activities, ensured implementation, took part, contributed, etc.

Signs of a competent resume

The literacy of the compiled resume is not only the absence of oversights. In most cases, the documents should adhere to the official style. An exception may be non-standard resumes, which are for extraordinary posts, which require creative and unusual skills. But even in such papers, one should not write in the data about oneself: “Ivanova Lyuba”, “Deniska Chizhikov”. It looks especially funny if the applicant is already 40 years old.

It will be useful to periodically update your career document. More recently, CVs were welcomed in tabular form, with the required attributes: purpose, recommendations. Recently, this writing style has lost its relevance.

Also, do not indicate your political or deeply personal views, ascribe to yourself other people's professional achievements or describe them in great detail. The practice of receiving unspoken recommendations from previous duty stations is used everywhere, all untruthful information will become apparent.

Conclusion

When compiling a resume, you can imagine yourself in the role of a very busy HR manager. The resume should be such that the manager sees that this is exactly the candidacy that the company needs to solve the tasks and achieve goals.

You should critically evaluate your creation for errors and inaccuracies, structural consistency and chronology, information content. It should be an intrigue, not phrases that cause drowsiness or disappointment from the time spent.

Do not be too intrusive and send three times a resume for the same vacancy. But if the contact numbers of the employer are indicated, it is better to inquire whether the resume is received and what his future fate is.
