Business on ebay resale. Business on eBay

Dropshipping on ebay.com

For those who do not know, there is a global market (auction) ebay on the Internet, where people from all over the globe buy and sell different things. Some are just looking for the lots they need, and some are selling. And you can earn good money on this.

Go around your apartment or house, climb into the attic or go down to the basement, rummage through your grandmother's old things and you can find something to sell on ebay and make money. Everyone buys on ebay. And if your lot is not too expensive, then someone will certainly find it and buy it.

Smart people figured out how to make a lot of money on this auction and called it "dropshipping". There are 2 earning schemes: buying on ebay and selling with a cheat on third-party resources; buying on third-party resources and selling on ebay (or selling personal items).

The first scheme is more profitable, as there are often very good discounts on ebay. Sometimes they reach up to 90%! In order to buy something, you need a bank card or a PayPal wallet. There are also 2 types of sales on third-party resources:

  • actual sale;
  • selling through yourself.

What is a post-sale? You make a deal with some supplier company on ebay, the company gives you a photo of the product, you post it on some sites (be it bulletin boards, your online store (VKontakte, Instagram, your website, etc.), forums etc.) and set your price. That is, the price must be higher than that of the supplier in order for you to make a profit. But it's not worth jacking up the price too much. When a potential buyer appears, you send him the ordered goods from the supplier directly to him. It turns out that you are selling a product that you do not even see. The client sends you money, of which you take part of it for yourself (the one that you cheated), and give part to the supplier.

Selling through yourself means that you first buy something on ebay with your own money, and then try to sell it with a markup. But this method requires some start-up capital. Budget up to $1000 is enough.

Post sales is a very interesting proposition, but the difficulty lies in finding such a supplier. But the lack of sales through oneself is capital, which must first be earned and not be afraid to invest.

Where to sell things bought on ebay, or sell the goods of the supplier? To do this, you need a platform for the sale. It could be an online store. An online store can be opened on VKontakte, a beautiful online store will turn out from an Instagram page (they have a cool profile design that is quite suitable for sales), a Twitter page, your own website, various message boards. You can think of anything. For quick promotion, you will need finances, you will need to order advertising in special agencies, in other groups on VKontakte, Google AdSense, Yandex.Direct, etc. On average, you will spend about $100-200 on promotion. But you can get promoted without money, by spamming your friends. Ask them for reposts and for them to invite their friends to your store. It turns out such a word of mouth. And bulletin boards do not require finance at all and are suitable for single sales, not bulk purchases.

What is good to buy on ebay? The most popular products are: Apple technology and other smartphones and tablets; laptops; watch; auto parts; collectibles; paraphernalia; exclusive goods - what is sold there, but we do not have it yet, or will not be sold at all; stylish branded clothing and shoes; goods for which the delivery costs 2 times less than the cost itself.

What is not profitable to buy? It is not profitable to buy Chinese goods. Or goods that are sold from America, but are made in China. The so-called high copy. These are high-quality copies that do not differ in appearance, but the filling in them is so-so, as far as technology is concerned. Clothes begin to wash out and deteriorate very quickly. You should not buy and sell such goods.

Delivery. Delivery is made by many delivery companies, such as: FedEx, USPS and other international companies. There are worldwide deliveries and only USA. Worldwide shipping is very expensive, around $200. In order to make worldwide from only USA and reduce the cost of delivery around the world, intermediaries come to the rescue. These are firms that have employees in states and other countries who receive goods in their hands and then send them to you for little money. The shipping cost depends on the weight. On average, the cost of delivery will fluctuate around $ 100 with a commission of intermediaries.

If you decide to make money on ebay on your own, but cannot find a supplier, start selling through yourself. Of course, you will need start-up capital, but it will certainly pay off. Consider the most profitable example of earnings. Your best bet is not to buy everything in bulk. It is better to buy one thing and sell it. For example, Apple technology. Apple devices are dismantled with a bang, as they are quite expensive. Let's consider a real lot of brand new iPad Air 64gb Space Grey. Its price on ebay is $579.99. Price on Yandex.Market - from 37462 rubles ($1102). We buy it. With delivery, the price is $627.04. When choosing a delivery method, the approximate time frame for the arrival of the goods is indicated. On average, the order goes from 15 days to a month. When the iPad arrives, you take a few pictures of the box, of the device itself, check it works, and post those pictures on a lot of bulletin boards. You write a beautiful text, they say, a brand new iPad from America is being sold, no one has ever used it. And you make a cheat, say $200. So you're selling an iPad for $827, even though it will cost more than $1,100 in the store. At the same time, the device is new, working, official, most importantly - from America. You will sell it for that price quickly enough. Your profit will be $273, which is better to invest in a new purchase.

Notes. When ordering on ebay, pay attention to the status of the seller. The best sellers are marked with the Top-Rated Seller mark and this golden badge hangs. So, if you buy from him, you can be sure that you will not be deceived.

Where to get money for the first purchase? You can borrow from friends and say that you will return it in 2 months, or take a small loan from the bank, which you will pay off as soon as you sell the goods, or earn money so that you have an extra $ 700-1000 to buy.

We are all familiar with the American company Ebay, which provides services in the field of Internet auctions. It is such a phenomenon as an online auction that has made this service insanely popular around the world. Ebay operates on a colossally wide and diverse range of buyers, which allows people to sell the most sophisticated and non-standard products (after all, even they have their own target audience). A developed communication system provides users with the opportunity to show their best qualities in the process of open communication.

Ebay offers its users two types of sale of goods: sale by auction and sale at a fixed price. How is the process of selling on Ebay from an auction? The seller indicates the starting price of the lot, the start time of the auction and its duration. Anyone who is interested can place a certain bid on this lot at any time, but the bid may be outbid by other potential buyers. Current rates are available for viewing at any time. The participant of the auction, whose bid was the largest at the time of its end, receives the right to purchase the goods. The final purchase price is not equal to the maximum bid, but exceeds the second highest bid by one increment depending on the value of the bid (for example, $10 from $500 to $999.99). Thus, eBay implements a second price auction. For sale on Ebay at a fixed price, the seller offers his goods at a predetermined price (buy it now) until a certain moment (end of auction). The first bidder who agrees to pay the specified price receives the right to purchase. It is acceptable to combine a sale on Ebay at a fixed price with an auction sale.

The sphere of Internet auctions is quite relevant and interesting, but at the same time very specific. This sales format is suitable for those whose goal is a one-time sale of a unique product, or single sales of individual products as needed. After all, the seller's interest in this case lies in the most profitable implementation of one specific position. That is why auctions are not suitable for entrepreneurs seeking to increase sales and assortment of their goods. They are much better suited to the standard method of selling on Ebay at a fixed price. And Ebay, in turn, will help in this no less than in the case of auctions.

The main feature of selling on Ebay is the lack of listings with many offers from different sellers. Each listing is individual, allocated for a specific product of one seller (the domestic Avito service works on the same principle). One offer - one seller - one listing. This means that each listing must be carefully designed and created by yourself for all positions in the assortment of your store. The competition within a single listing, which plays a key role on Amazon, is absent here. All offers that have identical or close to identical names and descriptions compete with each other within their own, individual listings at the level of an entire category (or subcategory) of goods.

Ebay seller registration. Individual or business account?

The first thing to start with is to decide if you are going to start trading in a large volume of goods right away and use Ebay as a way to increase your existing sales income, or if you want to try to start with the sale of the first small batch in order to further develop. This question is caused by the fact that there are two types of accounts on Ebay: business account and individual account. The first type (business account) is relevant for those who already have experience in selling on foreign or at least domestic marketplaces, and also have a ready-made list of goods, a well-established system for their delivery and a well-developed plan for successfully entering the Ebay market. Usually, this category of people includes those who already have their own business in the field of online trading and want to expand their audience. That is, Ebay in their case plays the role of an elevator for an existing and well-established business that generates income. If you are just such an entrepreneur, then feel free to move on and register a business account. The second type (individual account) is suitable for those who are just approaching the first sales abroad and are planning to slowly but surely develop their first business on Ebay.

Let's take a closer look at the difference between business and individual accounts, and also decide which one is the most rational to choose at the beginning of your entrepreneurial journey.

individual account. First of all, it is worth noting that this type of account does not require you to comply with all legal aspects of doing business. This is a basic account of an individual seller, with which you sell any items that you own, not on behalf of the brand, but on your own behalf for your own purposes and profit. The individual seller account immediately introduces standard fees for each item sold (a certain percentage of revenue) and various kinds of restrictions on sales. The first of these is the restriction on listings and products in stock. It means you can't post more than 10 listings. At the same time, in all your listings in the aggregate there should be no more than 10 products in stock. That is, if you create 10 listings, you will not be able to list more than one item in stock on each listing. If you create, for example, two listings, then each will not be able to indicate more than 5 products in stock.

In the first case, the buyer will be able to purchase from you no more than one product at a time, in the second, respectively, no more than five. The second is the limitation on revenue. It means you can't sell more than $1,000 a month. Both restrictions will be removed after three months from the date of the first sale on Ebay. It is important to remember that the 90 days after which the restrictions will be lifted start from the moment of the first sale, and not from the moment of registration or placement of the first listing. This is a kind of trial period that Ebay gives to every newcomer. In addition to the two main restrictions, there are also smaller and specific limits that pop up for each individually and depending on many factors. However, these limits should not be regarded as too strict, because ten listings are enough for a successful start, and you are unlikely to exceed $ 1,000 in the first months of your development as an Ebay seller. After the cherished 90 days, subject to all Ebay rules and no violations, you will be able to post up to 50 listings, as well as indicate an unlimited number of items in stock and sell for almost any amount. Thus, an individual account provides you with a very suitable framework for getting your first experience with Ebay, for studying the market and for carefully developing a further strategy. You sell whatever you want, but only as an ordinary individual and in limited quantities.

business account. To register a business account, you must have a legal, registered company or have the status of an individual entrepreneur. When registering from scratch or when switching to a business account, you will need to indicate the registration numbers of your company, its details, data on constituent documents. Ebay may even require you to send copies of some of the constituent documents, as well as documents containing information about the method of purchase of goods, their delivery, storage or mailing. Having a business account will give you the opportunity to create a full-fledged, legally registered business on Ebay with all the legal obligations that follow from this, such as paying taxes to the country of which you are a citizen. Let's look at the main goals of creating a business account, which become feasible only if you have an officially registered business:

  • Creating your own brand and further actions on its behalf.
  • Manufacture of own goods and their sale on Ebay under own brand.
  • Acquiring the status of a reseller and reselling goods of other brands with their consent.
  • Placing a huge number of listings (250+) and unlimited high volume of sales on an ongoing basis.
  • Decreased sales fees from outside
  • Setting your company's own policy regarding deadlines, returns, disputes, etc.
  • Increasing the level of trust.
  • Resolution of all conflicts within the framework of the legislation and the policy of your brand.

From this we can conclude that the need to register a business account is primarily caused by such a high volume of sales that their implementation is impossible without legal registration and the presence of your own company.

In addition to all of the above, it is worth noting that the issue of various restrictions and limits on Ebay is often purely individual. When studying forums and other sources of information on sales on this marketplace, you can find many contradictions regarding the imposition and removal of restrictions in cases with different sellers. For some reason, Ebay decides to change the general rules for imposing and removing limits for some accounts. For some, restrictions may be lifted much earlier than the appointed time, for some later, for one, new ones will appear, and for the other, the old ones will change. There is no such person who could understand and explain all the patterns of Ebay's work with certain sellers in all the smallest details. In each case, there will be some individual criterion that will interfere with understanding why Ebay decided to do this with you, and this way with others. When writing this article, we are based specifically on our experience with Ebay and on the general rules that Ebay provides publicly or privately as we cooperate with it.

Now that we have figured out the purposes of creating an individual and business account, the question “Which account should I choose?” falls off on its own. After all, their purpose is completely different. Personally, we believe that if you are an ordinary person, and not a company with a well-developed market entry strategy and a well-functioning scheme of work, then, of course, you should start by registering an individual account. This will help you get a better feel for the activity that you are going to do and create a foundation for further advancement. If your business turns out to be successful and breakthrough, then you should think about switching to a business account and at the same time to a new stage of development.

Settlement account, withdrawal of earned money and everything related to transactions when selling on Ebay.

So we come to another very important question: "How are monetary transactions carried out when working with Ebay?". Each seller account has its own balance, which displays all financial information: from the amount on your account to all monetary transactions carried out through your account. It would seem that everything is simple here: you sell a product - you see the money in your balance sheet, you sell more - the money increases, and you put it in your pocket. But in reality, things are different. Yes, all instant transactions, such as receipt of money from sales to the account, payment of fees and charges, cash refunds, payment for a place in a category, are carried out from your personal Ebay account (balance). But behind all these basic transactions is the PayPal payment system, which ensures the financial activity of your account. When registering an account on Ebay, you must link it to your PayPal account, to which, in turn, you link your bank card. Thus, the withdrawal of money earned from sales occurs in three steps:

  1. The money goes to the balance of your Ebay account;
  2. After a certain period (usually about two weeks, but if the buyer immediately confirms the transfer, then the delay can be avoided) the funds are sent to your PayPal account;
  3. Within a few business days (one - three days), the money is credited to your PayPal account and becomes available for withdrawal to the card, which will take another two to five business days.

You have the right to link an existing PayPal account to your Ebay account or create a new one. And here we are again forced to return to the question of choosing the type of PayPal account: personal or business account. Here, the selection criteria are no longer the same as in the case of an account on Ebay. Personal account - a regular account that allows you to make all basic financial transactions and withdraw up to $500 per month (with account verification - up to $10,000). Its commercial use is rather limited, but still suitable for low-volume sales. The use of credit and debit cards will also be limited. All this can very soon lead to various kinds of problems when the buyer tries to pay for the order, when withdrawing funds, etc. Therefore, in order to avoid such situations, we recommend that you immediately open a business account, after which you will forget about such problematic situations, as well as free yourself from having to create one when switching to a business account on Ebay (having a business account on PayPal is mandatory when switching to a business account on Ebay). The main point here is that registering a business account on PayPal is possible only if there is a legal entity or an individual entrepreneur. But we do not consider this a big problem, because registering an individual entrepreneur will take you a couple of days, and a business account on PayPal will provide all further financial activities on Ebay, eliminating unnecessary difficulties in the sales process.

What is still to be discussed and what should definitely be paid attention to selling on Ebay?

The purpose of this article was to provide general information about such an Internet giant as Ebay, to fill you in on the main aspects of working with it, to form an initial understanding of the process of selling on Ebay, and also to help you create your first account without unnecessary mistakes.

Subsequently, we will discuss the issue of creating the first listing, its design, technical support and promotion. In addition, we will tell you how to rationally use the opportunities that Ebay gives during the trial period. Remember the markets with stalls of all sorts of things? How did you then resort in search of anything, and this could definitely be found at the “shuttles”. So, eBay is such a web 2.0 marketplace where you can easily buy any board for equipment, gadgets, clothes, and anything else.

But today we will not talk about the site itself and how it is profitable to sell something on it and not get screwed. In this article, I spoke with Oleg Bilonogy. This is the kind of person who knows everything about eBay from a seller's point of view. For him, words like dropshipping or Private Label are not empty words.

Until now, the problem is to find a Russian-speaking trainer who has experience in trading not 1-2 sales per day, but at least 20-30 sales per day. And Oleg is one of those experienced coaches.

Oleg Bilonogy

Oleg came to the world of e-commerce from professional sports (karate). He had and has his own club "ONAMI". At 44, he realized that it was difficult to support a family with five children through sports. And then he began to look for new ways to earn money.

So, having no economic, technical or even marketing education, he came to the world of e-commerce. Of course, Oleg did not achieve success in one day. He tried 100,500 online and offline businesses before turning his attention to Amazon and eBay.

As often happens, relatives and friends did not believe in businesses on our Internet. Sports discipline and perseverance led to the fact that Oleg became one of the first in Ukraine who began to fully trade on eBay without intermediaries accepting payments on PayPal.

But first Oleg (in 2014) came to Amazon. Unfortunately, this platform turned out to be too "hostile" for the entrepreneur. Constant checks from Amazon, unusually demanding customers, and so on. Plus, inexperience and uncertainty affected, which made Oleg look towards eBay.

Today and then, at the beginning of the journey (early 2015), in Ukraine, PayPal is limited and cannot accept payments. And without this, in turn, it is impossible to fully trade on eBay. After three months of trying to solve the problem, Oleg first agreed with a partner from Russia, who accepted payments to his PayPal account and transferred it to Ukraine.

With this approach, the commission "devoured" most of the profits, but there were no other options. And six months later, Oleg opened his company in an offshore zone and then he was able to register his own account in the payment system.

In an attempt to develop his company and better understand and work with eBay, Oleg began to look for a business coach for a coach. Which turned out to be not easy either. Experienced people are very, very few. Therefore, Oleg began to look for a coach in the English-speaking segment, and along the way began to develop the Russian-speaking Facebook community. The task of the community is simple - to move together towards not making money, but business.

By agreement, Oleg took his first course and translated it from one of the English-speaking coaches. At that time, he had only 10 sales per day, and the course cost $30. About 200 people attended the course. Most of which have already overtaken me in terms of turnover of Oleg himself. Of course, there are those who, as they say, "didn't get it", and that's fine ...

The main creeds at the stage of formation of Oleg's business were:

  • Completely legal business.
  • Eliminate theft in yourself, that is, do not buy stolen courses, gradually switch only to legal software, and so on.
  • Reputation and a person are more expensive, more important than money.

Today Oleg e-commerce consultant in state structures of Ukraine, Kazakhstan and other CIS countries. He has successful cases of promoting brands on eBay.

And here is the interview promised at the beginning of the article

Immediately the first question from an amateur. Why can't I just go and start selling on eBay? Let's say I have some kind of product that I produce myself, and it's the only way to buy it offline. It would seem that you have registered and trade.

I must say right away: there are no stupid, amateurish questions. At the start, all questions are good, but you need to understand, gradually moving forward, you need to change the format.

Before you ask a question, you should try to solve it. And if you didn’t manage to solve it, with the answer options go to the community, consultant, and so on.

When it is clear that a person has tried, I want to help him find a solution. However, such a format is possible when a person is already familiar with the sources of information, and so on. Therefore, at the start, I am ready to answer any question, but gradually accustoming the student to look for their own solutions.

I did this at the beginning, but there were no sales, and I did not understand why. As it turned out, in addition to the product, it is worth knowing how to set up and register a seller account, a store, optimize the listing, and so on. These nuances are not big, but very important. Already after a person understands how the site is technically arranged, where and which button to press, how to find a support phone number ... you can start choosing a product, but there are some nuances here too.

There is such a thing as a trend: trending categories, trending products are those categories (niches), products that will be sold both seasonally and constantly. You can, of course, sell everything in a row, but then the process of optimizing the listing, understanding the price for the goods becomes more complicated, it is difficult to negotiate, for example, with a supplier in America, and so on. But having a niche store of trendy goods, we make it easier for ourselves to optimize, we focus on prices, what and when it sells better. In addition, if we treat our activities not as a craft, but as a business, we will need an investor (not to be confused with a lender) who is ready to invest. To do this, he must see that the account is promoted, a niche is clearly formed on it, and, most importantly, income can be predicted.

But in general, you can register just like that and trade ... probably.

In general, is it necessary to have something of your own for sale? Or can I just act as an intermediary seller?

It is not necessary to have your product at the start. In order to decide on a niche, understand how the site works, how to communicate with buyers and eBay and Paypal support, and so on, you can use a strategy such as DropShipping. This is when you are looking for a product inside, for example, America, China and sell it for more, and take the difference for yourself.

That is, you are essentially selling someone else's product and promoting it at the same time, so some owners of small brands are only in favor. But there are those who are against their products being traded in this way, for a simple reason - so as not to sell counterfeit goods. Basically, big brands are worried about the quality of their products, which can allow you to trade your product, provided that you show that the product was purchased from official distributors.

There are those who do not allow, in principle, to trade their products. However, this is not a problem with the product. There are so many suppliers that there is enough for everyone. Gradually, having understood which product is of interest to your customers, you can already search for it, for example, in Russia or order it in China and bring it under promoted listings, and even then you can talk about your product. Some go further - they become producers, knowing the pros and cons of the goods they are going to produce, having learned them in the course of trade.

In short, you can start as a dropshipper, but the strategic goal is your product, on which you will build your business.

- Why eBay? Aren't there other sites? The same Amazon or AliExpress.

I'll reveal a little secret. I have been trading on two platforms for a year now: Amazon and eBay, and I am learning to trade using Shopify. Aliexpress is a Chinese market and there is fierce competition, but I know that handmade and honey are in trend in China now. But I have enough work here, and there is a place where I can earn money. I plan to do business in the East, but mainly in the Middle East (UAE).

- What are the main trading strategies on eBay? Are they different from other sites?

I will try to be brief, because this topic is a whole block in my course (about 2 hours of communication).

eBay was originally created as an auction and a platform where you can bargain. It is precisely this that differs from Amazon and others like it.

With the help of an auction, you can sell the leftovers, understand how interesting the product is, and so on. In addition, on eBay there is such a feature as "Best Offer" - the best offer. This is when your buyer can offer you an acceptable price for the goods, and you can offer your own in response, as well as agree or refuse the proposed price. There are practically no combinations of such formats on other sites.

In my opinion, there are 4 main sales strategies (where to start and what to make money on):

  1. Dropshipping is a direct delivery of goods from a supplier to a buyer, in which the seller (intermediary) does not store the goods in his warehouse, or does without it at all. Goods are sent to the customer directly from the warehouse of the manufacturer, supplier, wholesaler or distributor.
  2. WholeSale - small and large wholesale.
  3. Export is not your product. Trade from your own country or from the country of origin, for example - China.
  4. Manufacture and sale of your goods or goods that you can order.

Fine. I'm ready to go trading. What kind of "gentleman's set" is needed to start? Do you need any financial investment?

To go trading, you need to have:

  • Knowledge of spoken English.
  • Understanding how the platform works and its functions.
  • Ability to search for and identify a trending category and/or product.
  • Prepare for the fact that your customers are fundamentally different mentally from yours. Clear strategic and tactical goals, and an understanding of where to go.
  • Discipline.

There are a few other things, but these are the main ones.

I will say this about finance: you can start skillfully with any amount, but you need to understand that capital will also grow more slowly. It's one thing when I entered with 100 dollars, another thing - with 500. In the first case, it will just take longer to unwind, but then you can attract investors, now there are enough of them.

I will say about myself that I took $50 from the family budget. But the strong impetus was that colleagues from Amazon sold their goods for sale, and this significantly accelerated the growth of my first capital. I will say more, and now you can use this method, but you need to prove yourself as an honest, decent person, and then there will be no problems with investors and capital growth.

Can I do this myself? Without registering any IP and LLC? This is especially frightening with the constant news about tax audits.

At the start of your sales career, yes, it is acceptable not to register a legal entity. However, if we are talking about a business with growth in turnover, you will have to open a company, and most likely this company will be in the USA and / or Europe. It is not as difficult and scary as it seems at first glance. However, this is a natural process of becoming a business.

In Telegram, VKontakte, I saw publics that simply post refs for goods from Ali. Maybe it's easier to make money than to open your own store?

Why not? At the dawn of my activity, I also tried to earn some money with this, but this is also not an easy job. We only see the tip of the iceberg. However, for the owner of such a group to be successful, it is worth shoveling through huge layers of information: how to promote the group, where to get the product that will interest you, and how to get a member or visitor of the group to click on his link, or even better - buy on it. In general, this is also work, and it takes time, which everyone decides where to spend it - I chose eBay.

- I got acquainted with your courses, and I was immediately confused by the words Dropshipping, arbitration, Private Label. Sounds like something illegal and very difficult to understand. Can you briefly explain what it is and what they “eat” with?

The Western world is the world of laws and lawyers. There, in principle, illegal activities are punished very severely. Therefore, there is a legal background, but only within the framework of the criminal and tax code of the country in which the seller trades and in which he lives.

Arbitrage, or, as the Amazons also call it, OA (Online Arbitrage) is the same as WholeSale. That is, the search for trending goods, the purchase of small or large wholesale and retail sales through your account.

Private Label is also a term used by Amazon sellers and means that a person is already selling his goods, which are produced for him by order in China, Russia, Ukraine, and so on, or he himself produces and sells his goods.

I also noticed that you have a separate "chapter" about PayPal. Why do I need PayPal as a seller? What are the "pitfalls" here? For example, I had to confirm my account in the Euroset, because the amounts went beyond the average human.

For non-residents of the USA, Europe, payment acceptance is available only on PayPal. There are enough "stones" for a simple reason - PayPal is not responsible for the quality of the seller's service (this is eBay's parish), but for the buyer's money. This is a pure liability to the buyer and seller. Therefore, PayPal imposes more stringent requirements not on the buyer, but on the seller.

For example, PayPal support may question the origin of your item based on a buyer's complaint and request invoices for your item (eBay can do the same). It happens, it happens that after purchasing a product, a case is opened marked “Unauthorized purchase”. For example, the account owner did not buy the product, but his son or wife bought it, having access to his PayPal (or he was somehow hacked). Then the proceedings begin, which can drag on for more than one week.

Each owner of a PayPal account has limits, reaching which, you need to pass verification according to the data - full name, confirm the address of residence - and the more turnover, the more stringent the requirements. Before reaching $20,000 (all time) turnover, PayPal requires a legal entity. And when a turnover of 50,000 is reached, this is a mandatory option for doing business, and this is normal.

Now it's much clearer. Tell me, do you need to promote your product? It seems to many that if the product is good, then it will be sold anyway. And don't invest in promotion.

Before promoting a product, service (you need to remember that not only physical goods are sold on eBay), you need to go through the preliminary stages that I described above. In addition to studying the site, you need to study the market, niche.

Optimize both the listing and the store. Trade in the chosen niche, and already successfully selling your product using eBay internal traffic, gradually connect external traffic: social networks (not necessarily advertising), thematic forums and buying a place in blogs, video blogs from opinion leaders and gradually expand sales channels, using not only eBay itself, but also landing pages to optimize external traffic to your eBay account.

There is such a concept as “conversion”, that is, if there are many visits and few purchases, this worsens the indicator of both the listing on eBay and the account as a whole. Therefore, landing pages are often used for external traffic.

- And finally. What advice would you give to newbies who are thinking of getting into selling on eBay?

Do not rush into the pool with your head and the desire to hit a big jackpot. This is fraught with blocking your eBay and / or PayPal account.

Carefully study the help section on eBay. It has been perfectly translated into Russian. This is another advantage over other Western marketplaces.

Determine for yourself information blocks that will help you start and improve your qualities as a seller. I can recommend the following main blocks:

  • A technical block that includes an understanding of the functions of the site and its settings.
  • Understanding which goods can be traded and which are prohibited by the rules of eBay and PayPal. Then identify a trending product and gradually define a niche for your store.
  • Creation and optimization of both a separate product and the seller's account as a whole.
  • Accompanying your buyer, both potential and the one who purchased the goods from you. Realizing that when purchasing a product, he also pays for the service, and if the service and / or product did not suit him, this is a case that you need to be able to solve.
  • Constantly monitor information resources on all these items and / or global updates on the eBay site itself.
  • If your English is bad or none, look for tutor courses right now.

The site provides an opportunity not only for large companies, but also for private entrepreneurs to conduct their business on the Internet and make good money on it. We will tell you how to become a seller on the site and help you avoid the most common mistakes.

Eligibility criteria

To start your own business on eBay, you must meet a number of eBay seller criteria:

Registration procedure

First steps as a seller

Find a product category that will sell and be interesting to work with. At the same time, it is important to understand issues related to pricing, transportation of orders and relations with customers.

Choose a category of goods

You need to decide what type of item is right for you to sell on eBay - new or used, or perhaps antique and rare items:

  1. When selling new items, in order to develop your business in the future, you may need to find a trusted supplier of wholesale goods. At the beginning of the trading activity, there will be enough new things from stores in your area (sales, various promotions, etc.), but then it will be necessary to sell significantly more goods in order to grow.
  2. Choosing a used item category, as well as antiques, means that you will have to study the local "flea market", various thrift stores, small auctions, etc., in order to ensure that rare goods are constantly available in your store.

You also need to think about how much you will spend on the purchase of things, and the issue of delivery. Your customers benefit from buying goods at an affordable cost. At the same time, they will also focus on the cost of delivery. Remember that transporting a heavy load is expensive, so the price for them should initially be slightly less.

Keep in mind that it is you, as the seller, who will be responsible for the damage during the delivery of things. So be careful when selling fragile items.

Auction payment

How to design a product to attract customers?

There are a number of nuances that help the sale of the lot:

  1. A product sells faster if the title contains key phrases to describe things. Customers find items through eBay's internal search. Therefore, the description of the goods should be detailed and honest information. This is the year of manufacture and information about weight, material, quality and colors, etc. Write something that will “hook” the client: an emotionally charged offer or a mini-story about the product.
  2. Take not one photo, but from different angles. Be sure to attach a photo of the defect, if any.
  3. Indicate information about the countries to which you deliver things, and the cost of transportation.

Remember that in the information about the lot, in no case should there be extraneous links, incl. and to your online store!

eBay Store Opening

eBay Store is the name of an online store that opens directly on the site of the marketplace. This type of business is relevant for sellers with an average or high level of sales. The rating for this must be at least 20.

The site will provide you with services that help attract customers. They are subject to an additional fee, which depends on the number of these services. Choose the best rate for you from those that are on the site. Opening an eBay Store is also attractive because you have to pay less Insertion Fee for it.

Happy reading!

Many people start trading eBay with enthusiasm and great optimism, but quickly burn out, experience disappointment, and their financial situation as a result may become even worse than where they started. Some try to blame it on eBay , others blame customers (yes, they often see customers as "inadequate"), when in fact a little common sense and an understanding of the main common mistakes could well have corrected the situation.

Here are some of the most common mistakes newbies make on eBay and ways to avoid them.

  • 1. Do not consider trading eBayas a business. New Sellers eBay it is often believed that trading eBay is a good opportunity to start slowly and grow slowly. That is, they do not consider their sales on the site as a business until they start making good money from it. This kind of thinking puts the cart before the horse. In order to make good money eBay you will have to think about eBay like about business from the start. And treat it accordingly, behave like a profit-making enterprise, using the profit-making models used by other prosperous enterprises.

How to avoid this error : Choose your business model (business model) carefully, keep your books, test and market research, and avoid the pitfalls of starting a business. Take this matter seriously enough.

  • 2. An attempt to "quickly raise the loot" on the dropship. If getting rich was as easy as buying a subscription to a hyped list Google -ohm dropshippers, and then let the dropship companies and eBay bring everything else to a business that would work automatically, then everyone in the world would be rich. In fact, many sellers eBay use the same handful of dropshipping companies and try to sell the same products in a crowded marketplace. It is clear that it is very difficult to survive in this way, let alone grow or make a good profit. For those who fail to properly prepare for trading, this is a great way to quickly burn out (and end up with an empty wallet) instead of succeeding.

How to avoid this error : Carefully explore dropshipping options if you are interested in this direction, but only after an informed choice of a business model for trading on eBay in which you are going to work, working through the many sourcing options available to you. This requires a thoughtful and creative approach.

  • 3. Not having a clear understanding of the fees eBay. Some of the novice sellers are faced with the fact that they can not always accurately understand the sizes. eBay fees - both for new exhibited goods, and for already sold goods. The same goes for fees. PayPal which are charged separately. Often salespeople, after spending a lot of time and getting a lot of sales, suddenly realize that they are not making a lot of money on it. Moreover, they may find that the amounts received do not even cover their actual costs, and this can put the seller out of business very, very quickly. .

How to avoid this error : Use paid calculators, remember basic accounting methods, keep accurate records and spreadsheets, control your deductions eBay so that you know for sure whether all your sales bring you profits or they are unprofitable.

  • 4. Setting too high an auction starting price and/or reserving a high price . If your product and its sales page look good, then the product will sell for some approximate market price, unless you outbid it with a high introductory price, a high fixed price, or a reserved price. Very often the goods displayed on eBay without a reservation price and with a starting price of $1.00, receive more bids and end at higher prices than similar auctions with high opening bids or reserved prices. Too many sellers are unwilling to rely on the market and set their starting price too high or set a killer reserve price. In any case, they lose money that they could have earned. Beginning sellers of used, not new goods also tend to overprice their products. Too many new sellers of non-new products reason like this: "a few years ago it cost $ N. NN we're losing our money!" In fact, a non-new product should cost much less than a new one, no matter what its original price was.

How to avoid this error : Start auctions well below market value (ideally $1.00), without price reservations, trying not to think about selling at eBay how about being able to recoup the original price or the retail price of the local store.

I wanted to be indignant and argue, but here, apparently, we are talking about second-hand goods. With them, and so everything is clear!

  • 5. Stingy description . Since most of what is sold on eBay are standard consumer goods, eBay offers a system catalog where you can find features and photo sets for most of them. Also eBay asks about the condition of the item (“item condition”: new, refurbished, used (used) or not working). Filling in all this data, many new sellers on eBay believe that there is no need to add your own description when listing the goods. Nothing could be so far from the truth! Buyers on eBay very picky, they want to see exactly your product description. Why are you selling it? Even if it is new, what is the condition of the packaging? Are all accessories included? Is this a resale after a private purchase, or are you a liquidator? Is there a guarantee? Scratches? Dents? Goods without a good description sell noticeably worse at auction eBay than products with good descriptions.

How to avoid this error : Create a product description that is unique to you and the product you are selling, and that looks and reads like buyers on eBay understand and expect from you.

  • 6. Bad photos or lack of them . Ads without photos or only with images from eBay catalogs tend to sell much worse than pages with photos of real products. Buyers typically want to see:a) that you do have the item and that you are not reselling an item that you do not actually own;b) that you are a fairly conscientious seller, ready to spend time on marketing your own products;c) what is the actual condition of the goods - as if they saw them with their own eyes.

How to avoid this error : Post several high-quality photos for each item for sale.

  • 7. Charge shipping too high . It may be tempting to charge a higher shipping price in order to make the price of the item itself look more attractive. But this strategy can seriously hurt you in the long run. Conscious consumers on eBay tend to sort search results by their total cost (including shipping), so overpricing shipping actually results in lower sales among price-conscious shoppers. It is important that buyers eBay are increasingly looking for and even willing to pay more for products with free shipping. Search option “best match” on eBay usually places above products with free shipping, promotes them. Perhaps most importantly, today's buyers eBay are very sensitive to shipping costs and can quickly deduct one, two, or three stars from your detailed seller rating, in the "shipping costs" section. A few of these reviews and you can say goodbye to your eBay business.

How to avoid this error A: Estimate shipping according to the weight of the item, its packaging, and the shipping/postal service. Or do what many other sellers do - set free shipping, even if for this you have to adjust the final price of the goods.

  • 8. Use friends and family to raise bids in auctions . Many novice sellers mistakenly believe that it's an effective strategy to bid up an auction with friends, family, or an additional account to get a good final price. In fact, such activities are classified as fraud (shill bidding) and can lead to a ban on eBay for life.
. If your goal is to sell more eBay than you are selling right now, not solving customer problems is not what you need. Reviews on eBay (feedback) and Detailed Seller Ratings ensure that every new buyer who is about to buy from you will have some idea of how you treated the buyers. You will find that buyers will evaluate your reviews to decide if they want to do business with you. More specifically, eBay also counts the number of disputes that have been filed against you and the number of complaints they have received against you.

How to avoid this error A: Always respond to emails and phone calls in a timely and friendly manner, even if the customer is upset, and offer the option of returning an item if the customer is genuinely dissatisfied with the purchase.

  • 10. Do not use all available funds for development and growth . Too many new and impatient sellers are dragging along with the "basic" e Bay , spend their time on inefficient sales using guesswork, even when their competitors list more products, making more sales in less time and generating more revenue. This is completely counterintuitive, especially when you consider how many free and inexpensive tools are available to you.

How to avoid this error : Get it right and start using combinations of Selling Manager, Listing Analytics, Sales Reports, Terapeak or any of their competitors, eBay Stores, Turbo Lister and other time and money saving tools and services.

These aren't all the mistakes new salespeople tend to make, but these are most of the more common ones. All of them are fairly easy to avoid, especially once you understand the impact they can have on your business and its long-term viability.
